Atlanta (WAOK) — The Atlanta Police Department are currently investigating a shooting that took place at Norfolk Southern, located at 1230 Peachtree St NE.
According to a statement emailed to CBS Radio by Elizabeth Espy, Deputy Manager of Public Affairs for the Atlanta Police Department, at approximately 6:43 a.m. Wednesday morning police from the APD’s Zone 5 unit arrived at Norfolk Southern in response to a report of a severely injured woman that had been shot several times. The victim was identified as 47 year old Bridgette Holt.
Witnesses said that as Holt was heading to her work site she was approached by a male co-worker. They two people spoke for a short time until the man produced a handgun and shot Holt several times at point blank range. After the shooting the man fled the scene. Holt was taken to Grady Hospital, where she later died.
Wednesday afternoon Atlanta police went to a home in Clayton County with a search warrant and found the male co-worker dead of a self inflicted gunshot wound. The man’s identity has not been released.
Atlanta police say the Clayton County Medical Examiner is expected to make the final determination as to cause of death.
A Norfolk Southern spokesman said Holt had worked at the company for 16 years in the accounting department. The company is offering grief counseling to employees to help them deal with the incident.
