Savannah Police Investigating Cemetery Vandalism

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Savannah police are searching for suspects after 17 headstones were damaged at the Laurel Grove North Cemetery.

Police say some of the headstones date to the 19th century and are considered irreplaceable.

Cemetery workers discovered the crime about a week ago, when they found the headstones pushed off their foundations, many of them broken.

Police said in a statement Wednesday that the damage amounted to thousands of dollars.
