ATLANTA (AP) — Emory University’s medical school has announced a new counseling service to provide information about pregnancy and early motherhood.

MotherToBaby Georgia is a free statewide service meant to connect experts in the field of birth defects research with expectant mothers, health care providers and the public. The program is funded by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.

Program director Claire Coles says it’s often hard to find reliable information on the risks of medications, vaccines, alcohol, drugs, chemicals and other factors during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. She says the goal is to provide the most cutting edge research.

The program is housed at the Center for Maternal Substance Abuse and Child Development Center in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Emory School of Medicine.
