I usually don’t like to brag about myself (ok…maybe that’s a little lie), but I had a 14-2 record in my week 1 predictions for the opening round of the Georgia HS Football playoffs (Peachtree Ridge and Collins Hill was the reason I didn’t go a perfect 16-0). This week will be another exciting week in the field of 16 in Class AAAAAA. I am looking forward to all of the matchups, but I want talk about a few of them.
One of the matchups that I am looking forward to is Region 6 Alpharetta taking on Region 7 Collins Hill. Alpharetta played well in the second half against South Gwinnett in the first round forcing turnovers onward to a 41-23 victory. Collins Hill dominated Walton 41-7 in the opening round and looked VERY strong!! I really enjoy watching Alpharetta play and they are a team “on the rise”, but I think Collins Hill will take this game by 10.
Another matchup that could be interested (if both teams show their potential) is Archer High School taking on North Gwinnett. I was “a little” harsh on the Archer’s student body last week and that will not change!! Sure, they beat an undersized North Forsyth team in the opening round, but North Gwinnett is better than they are on both sides of the ball. Archer will hang around for (maybe) a half, but the conditioning of the North Gwinnett players will get the last laugh! I will take North Gwinnett by two touchdowns.
The biggest “blowout” of the week will happen at Barron Field in Dacula. The Peachtree Ridge Lions travel to take on the Dacula Falcons. In the opening round, Dacula struggled with a good (not great) West Forsyth team and beat them by less than a touchdown. Peachtree Ridge showed up in Cobb County and “Killed” Lassiter (I guess the vandalism at Lassiter got into the head…hats off to Peachtree Ridge for getting the upper hand…somewhat!!!) Peachtree Ridge offense is REALLY good and it starts with Running Back Jordan Ellis (Virginia recruit). If he has a game (knowing Dacula’s defense is horrible), than this should another “Field-Day” for Peachtree Ridge. I like them to dominant by at least 14 points.
The last game that will involve two “well-respected” Gwinnett County schools is Norcross High School taking on Brookwood High. This is a “toss-up” game for me. Norcross shut out Etowah in the opening round and had a GREAT defensive scheme working for them. For Brookwood to win, they must be able to run the ball on this semi-collegiate defense. If they do that, they will keep it close. I am going to take Norcross by 10 points.
This should be an interested 2nd round of the GHSA Football Playoffs in Class AAAAAA. Let’s recap my predictions for the field of 16. They are as followed:
– North Cobb over Colquitt Co.
– Peachtree Ridge over Dacula
– Lowndes over Lovejoy
– Norcross over Brookwood
– McEachern over Hughes
– Collins Hill over Alpharetta
– Camden Co. over Hillgrove
– North Gwinnett over Archer
Until Next week…
