Alabama Man Plans To Remove Wife’s Grave From Yard

STEVENSON, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama man says he’s done fighting his hometown in court and will remove his wife’s grave from his front yard.

James Davis says a crew will arrive at his home in Stevenson early Friday to begin exhuming the body of wife Patsy Davis, who died in 2009.

The 74-year-old Davis buried the woman outside their log home and the city sued, claiming the burial was illegal.

A judge ordered Davis to remove the body last year, but he delayed the disinterment with appeals. The judge this week approved a negotiated plan to remove the body, the casket and burial vault.

Davis says he promised to bury his wife at their home before she died. He says he now plans to cremate her remains and keep them in the house.
