Atlanta(WAOK)-Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed says the city will demolish Turner Field in 2017 and build a suburban type experience in its place. Mayor Reed says the land will be cleared to create suburban style developments for middle-class people.
The Braves are leaving Turner Field due to a lack of remodeling to the stadium. The stadium will not be left open after the team starts playing at a new field in Cobb County in 2017.
The Mayor says the improvements requested would have put the city $150 million to $250 million in debt. He went on to say that remodeling Turner Field would hinder the city from accomplishing other goals.
