Ga. Man Shoots Himself During Police Standoff
SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Authorities in Savannah say a man who was being coaxed into police custody during a standoff shot himself and is hospitalized in critical condition.
Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police spokesman Julian Miller says the man was involved in a standoff with police, crisis intervention negotiators and SWAT team officials when he shot himself Saturday night.
Authorities say one of the man’s relatives called police to the duplex and told them he was inside his apartment armed with a rifle.
The circumstances leading to the initial police car were unclear.
