Today on Powertalk with Lorraine Jacques White we discussed Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Jonathan Martin taking a leave of absence and temporarily checking into a mental health hospital for emotional distress. Martin allegedes that teammate and offensive line mate Richard Incognito, bullied and harassed Martin which caused him to leave the team.

After leaving the team, Martin sent team officials a voicemail that Incognito left him in April 2013 shortly after being drafted:

“Hey, wassup, you half n—– piece of s—. I saw you on Twitter, you been training 10 weeks. [I want to] s— in your f—ing mouth. [I’m going to] slap your f—ing mouth. [I’m going to] slap your real mother across the face [laughter]. F— you, you’re still a rookie. I’ll kill you.”

After the voicemail was made public Incognito was suspended indefinitely, pending a team and league investigation.

Although Richard Incognito was guilty of leaving Jonathan Martin a racially charged message, he has received an overwhelming support from teammates who claim that the two were friends, and that Martin never spoke of his issues with the antics of Incognito.
