ATLANTA (WAOK) — Voters in four of the races for Atlanta Board of Education will have to go back to the polls to determine a winner after Tuesday’s election.

In the race for Board of Education District Five seat Steven Lee will face Mary Palmer, in District 6 Eshe Collins will face Dell Byrd, in District 8 At-Large seat Board Chairman Reuben McDaniel will face Cynthia Brown and in District 9 At-Large seat Jason Esteves will face Lori James.

Small business owner Leslie Grant defeated longtime APS board member Brenda Muhammad.

According to the Associated Press, incumbents won two Atlanta school board races: Courtney English held onto his seat over school administrator Nisha Simama in a citywide election, and Nancy Meister was re-elected over film consultant Taryn Chilivis Bowman to represent north Atlanta.

Runoffs will be held Dec. 3 to decide on representatives for west and southwest Atlanta, as well as two citywide seats.

Members of the Atlanta School Board have been under fire since the CRCT Cheating scandal erupted that eventually lead to several school administrators being indicted on corruption charges. One of those facing charges is former Atlanta School Superintendent Beverly Hall.
