The Atlanta Silverbacks, Atlanta’s professional soccer team, has solidified a place in this year’s NASL Soccer Bowl. It’s the leagues biggest game and determines the champion of the year’s two seasons. In the weeks leading up to the November 9th match, I will be conducting a series of podcasts that include interviews with different members of the organization.
In the 1st installment, I sat down with the head coach of the team, Brian Haynes. Brian shared stories from his upbringing in Trinidad and Tobago, his extensive career as both a player and a coach, the state of the game today, and his current position as the head coach of the Silverbacks.
Brian’s career in soccer began as a child and continued as a college student at Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina, from 1986-1989. From there he began a pro career that lasted nearly 10 years and included international stints with his home country, and professional indoor and outdoor soccer in the United States. Brian was a draftee of the inaugural MLS draft in 1996, going 33rd overall to the Dallas Burn (Now FC Dallas).
Listen below for my exclusive conversation with Brian, and look forward to weekly installments with different members of the organization.
