Wife Of Civil Rights Leader Joseph Lowery Hospitalized

ATLANTA (WAOK)-The wife of civil rights leader Rev. Joseph Lowery was hospitalized late Wednesday. Evelyn Lowery was reported to be suffering from a stroke late Thursday. The family issued a statement saying she was in critical condition and currently undergoing treatment. Rev. Lowery has remained by his wife’s side and was said to ask for the community to continue to pray for her.

Late Saturday the family issued a statement that said Mrs. Lowery has suffered irreversible damage from the stroke.

The Lowery’s have been married for 65 years and are prominent civil rights leaders in Atlanta.

Mrs. Lowery founded SCLC/W.O.M.E.N. (Women’s Organizational Movement for Equality Now) in 1979.  Rev Joseph Lowery is a past president of the S.C.L.C.  Rev Lowery the third president of the organization,
