Feds Say Ga. Sheriff’s Deputy Sold Marijuana To Undercover Agent

ATLANTA (AP) — Federal authorities have arrested a Georgia sheriff’s deputy they say sold marijuana to an undercover law enforcement agent.

An FBI agent’s sworn statement filed in federal court in Atlanta this week says Newton County sheriff’s Deputy Darrell Mathis sold marijuana to an FBI confidential source and to an undercover agent.

The FBI statement says the source had been in Mathis’ apartment on a social visit in April and saw several large bags of marijuana. On another occasion, Mathis arrived at a meeting in his patrol car and wearing his uniform and his gun as he sold the source marijuana.

The FBI statement also says Mathis sold marijuana to an undercover agent on several occasions.

It wasn’t immediately clear Friday if Mathis had a lawyer.
