Kroy Biermann, Bradie Ewing Out For The Season

The Falcons won the game on Sunday and improved to 1-1 but it definitely came at a cost.

DE Kroy Biermann was lost for the year with a torn Achilles tendon and FB Bradie Ewing will also miss the rest of the year with a separated shoulder.

All in all six starters left the game on Sunday in the Falcons win over St. Louis.

Jonathan Massaquoi and Malliciah Goodman filled in for Biermann in the Defensive End position and rookie Joplo Bartu filled in for Biermann in the Linebacker role.

Coach Smith said the backups at both Defensive End and Linebacker would all be used to fill Biermann’s variety roles. “The backup is going to have to step up
and make the plays that we anticipate they’re capable of making. There’s a role for a defensive end when Kroy was playing defensive end and there’s a role for one of the linebackers when he was playing linebacker. We’ve put that into place from the very beginning.”

The injury news was especially tough for FB Bradie Ewing. Last year his season ended in training camp and Coach Smith said he has already spoken with his young Fullback about beginning his preparation for next season.
