Grambling State Loses Opener 23-9 To Alabama A&M
GRAMBLING, La. — Brandon Wells threw for two touchdowns to carry Alabama A&M University over Grambling State, 23-9, in Southwestern Athletic Conference play on Saturday night at Eddie G. Robinson Stadium.
Wells was 15-of-28 for 187 yards and connected with Toriono Upshaw for two scores. AAMU (1-0, 0-1 SWAC) had 325 total yards overall compared to GSU’s 165 yards.
Upshaw led all recievers with five receptions for 47 yards. Barrington Scott rushed for 77 yards recording the Bulldogs’ other touchdown. Robert Nelson led AAMU’s defense with seven tackles including four for a loss.
GSU (0-1, 0-1 SWAC) was led by Cedric Skinner, D.J. Williams, Anthony McGhee, and Nicholas Peoples.
Skinner rushed for 73 yards on 14 carries averaging 5.2 yards per attempt and Williams tossed 6-of-20 for 62 yards.McGhee hauled in four receptions for 32 yards while Peoples led the defense with 10 tackles (8 solo) and an interception.
Jeremy Runner posted the only touchdown for the Tigers.
