BUFORD, Ga. (AP) — Police say there’s no history of domestic violence within the past several years between a man and woman killed in a shooting that involved a police officer.
Gwinnett County police on Wednesday identified the couple as 80-year-old Betty Jo Massengale and 73-year-old James Daniel Guler. Both were killed by gunshots early Wednesday at the home where they lived on Old Shadburn Ferry Road near Buford.
Police say an officer was walking toward the residence when a female approached him in the driveway. Authorities say a male suspect shot the female in the back, and the officer opened fire on the man. Police say the man fell to the ground and fired another shot. The officer wasn’t hurt.
Police haven’t determined whether the man died from the officer’s shot or from a self-inflicted gunshot.
