ATLANTA (AP/WAOK) – The Fulton County Board of Commissioners has approved a resolution imposing a temporary moratorium on some employee travel and training expenses and calling for a review of county policies.

Commissioner Robb Pitts introduced the measure, which the board approved this week. It does not apply to employee travel required in the performance of job duties or training to maintain a required certification or a license.

The ban applies to Fulton County employees, appointed members of boards and commissions, officers and elected officials.

In a statement Friday, Pitts cited the county’s current financial challenges and said recent reports have revealed that traveling and training expenses have either increased or remained the same despite steps designed to reduce costs.

The moratorium will remain until a review is completed and recommendations are made.
