ATLANTA (WAOK) – NFL fans take it very hard when their favorite team loses, and researchers say that loss may make them hungry for happiness — in the kitchen.
A recent study by two French researchers shows when a local NFL team lost a game on Sunday, people in that city ate about 16 percent more saturated fat and about 10 percent more calories on the following Monday than they normally did.
Conversely, when the team won, its fans consumed nine percent less saturated fat and five percent fewer calories the next day than they normally did.
The favorite foods fans consoled themselves with included pizza, cake and cookies.
The study is published in the journal Psychological Science.
