Jekyll Island Throwing Beach Party For Military
JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. (AP) — Country singer Rodney Atkins is headlining a weekend beach party for military families on Jekyll Island.
Festivities honoring service members and veterans kickoff Saturday at the island state park, where visitors with military IDs will receive free entry to the beachside Great Dunes Park. The festival includes water slides and games, crafts and food vendors, live music all day and fireworks Saturday night.
Organizers from Brunswick’s American Legion Post 9 have arranged for 1,000 VIP passes that give wounded service members free admission to Jekyll Island’s waterpark as well as free golf, tennis and bike rentals.
Atkins, whose hits include “Take a Back Road” and “Farmer’s Daughter,” will perform Sunday at the Jekyll Island convention center. Tickets are available to the general public, but military ID holders get discounts.
