Police: Usher’s Son Nearly Drowns In Atlanta Pool
ATLANTA (AP/WAOK) – Authorities say the son of Grammy-winning R&B singer Usher Raymond nearly drowned in an Atlanta pool on Monday.
Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos said in a report Tuesday that 5-year-old Usher Raymond V fell to the bottom of the pool while swimming under the supervision of a family member and became stuck in the drain. Campos says it happened Monday afternoon behind a home in downtown Atlanta.
Campos says a housekeeper tried to get to the boy, but was unable to pull him from the drain. The boy was eventually pulled from the pool and administered CPR by a man who was working at the home as an audio-visual subcontractor.
Campos says the boy was “conscious, breathing and alert” when firefighters arrived before 4 p.m. Usher Raymond V was taken to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite. The child’s mother – Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Foster Raymond – the artist and other family members were also at the hospital.
Barely a year ago, the son of Tameka Foster Raymond and her former husband Atlanta TV executive Ryan Glover died after being hit by a jet ski on Lake Lanier during the Fourth of July holiday outing with family and friends. Kile Glover was 11 years old when he died after being on life support for more than a week following the accident. A family friend is facing charges in the incident.
