The Falcons Practice For The Fans At Gainesville High School
Coach Mike Smith started this tradition some six years ago… the entire Atlanta Falcons team heads over to a local high school and runs through the process of a traditional weekly practice in front of 5,000 – 8,000 of their most loyal fans. And what has come to be known as “Friday Night Lights” has become a highlight of the Falcons training camp each year.
Moms, Dads, children, grandparents and groups of friends crowded into Gainesville High School’s football stadium, home of the Red Elephants, to see Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Steven Jackson, Jacquizz Rodgers and more under the Friday Night Lights and the Falcons did not disappoint.
The team ran through individual drills, sectional drills and offense vs. defense drills for the fans. Coach Smith made sure his team stayed healthy by limiting contact to above the waist and ruled out any cut blocking but there were still some pretty hard hits that could be heard echoing through the stadium, and the crowd loved it.
If you missed it, you missed a great show… make plans to get to Friday Night Lights next year. In the meantime, check out the pics from this year’s event here.
