Falcons Break Off Stadium Negotiations With Church
ATLANTA (AP/WAOK) – A state agency negotiating for land to build a new NFL stadium has broken off talks with one of two churches in its path.
The Georgia World Congress Center Authority informed Mount Vernon Baptist Church in a letter that it is “officially terminating negotiations” and “abandoning its efforts” to purchase the church’s property on the southwest edge of downtown Atlanta.
Negotiations stalled after the church “unanimously rejected” the authority’s “best and final offer” of $6.2 million, according to the letter and other documents.
The authority and the team are now turning their attention to a second site on the northwest edge of the downtown area to build the $1 billion retractable-roof stadium.
