On Wednesday’s Power Talk with Lorraine, we discussed the latest political scandal involving New York City mayoral candidate, Anthony Weiner. It was revealed that Weiner had been having a cyber-affair with a 23-year-old political activist, Sydney Leathers, where he sent explicit images and messages to her. Leathers sent pictures and text messages from Weiner to the website, TheDirty.com, and shortly after, they were posted online. She had met Weiner through the social Q&A website, Formspring, around July 12th and the affair continued for about 6 months. Weiner admitted to sending the pictures and messages, and explained that he would not back out of the run for mayor. “I’m sure many of my opponents would like me to drop out of the race but I’m not going to do it,” he said. He hopes the people of New York are “willing to still continue to give me a second chance.” This is not the first time Weiner finds himself in the center of a sex scandal. In 2011, Weiner sent one of his “followers” on the social site, Twitter, by posting it on his account. He quickly removed the picture, but it was up long enough to inflict damage to his political career. He resigned from Congress that time, should he drop out of the race this time? Weiner who is married, has the support of his wife who claims that the sexting scandal is “between us.” What do you think about this?
