Post-Zimmerman Verdict: How Do We Move Forward?
Today on Power Talk with Lorraine, we recapped yesterday’s WAOK/V-103 town hall meeting regarding the Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman case. After Zimmerman was found ‘not guilty,’ many people across the nation were outraged. They felt that the justice system was not in fact just, but what to do now? At our town hall meeting yesterday, we discussed how to move forward, ways to prevent a situation similar to Trayvon’s from happening again, and also encouraged peaceful and effective ways to make a difference.
If you missed the town hall meeting, you can listen to portions from the night below:
Also, today we talked about Rachel Jeantel’s interview on Al Sharpton’s show ‘Politics Nation’ last night. This was the second televised interview for Jeantel, the last person to talk to Trayvon, since the closing of the trial. They went over the various critiques the public had about Jeantel, and also her thoughts post-trial. In response to those claiming Jeantel was hostile on the stand, she stated, “[Don West] was trying to get me angry… To show the jury ‘Look at her. She’s angry. She’s a friend. If she’s angry, you should imagine how Trayvon is.” And, about Zimmerman not testifying, she said, “That’s not a real man. If you were not guilty, you’ll come up and tell your story.”
