Carter Says Zimmerman Jury Made The Right Decision

ATLANTA (AP) — Former President Jimmy Carter says the jury in the George Zimmerman trial made the right decision in finding the neighborhood watch volunteer not guilty.

During an interview with WXIA-TV in Atlanta Tuesday,  Carter said the jury made the correct decision based on evidence they were presented with in the case.

Carter says the prosecution set the standard so high that the jury had to be convinced that 29-year-old Zimmerman was deliberate in fatally shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in February 2012. Zimmerman has said the shooting was in self-defense. Carter says the case was based on a legal question, not a moral one.

The television station reports Carter was hesitant to give a direct answer when he was asked if he thought race factored into the case.
