Atlanta Opens New Film Office
ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta is opening up a film office to support efforts to expand the entertainment industry inGeorgia.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said in a statement this week that the film industry creates a range of well-paying jobs for residents and introduces new revenue possibilities for local business owners.
Officials say the city’s new Office of Entertainment will streamline the permitting process for film productions, facilitate local employment, create educational and training opportunities and work to ensure minimal disruption for neighborhoods.
Last fiscal year, state estimates show productions filmed in Georgia generated an estimated $3.1 billion in economic activity, a 29 percent increase from the year before.
The state estimates that out of 253 productions filmed in Georgia last year, between 75 and 80 percent were filmed in metro Atlanta.
