On Thursday’s Power Talk with Lorraine, the main discussion was violence regarding the outcome of the George Zimmerman trial.
Some have predicted that if Zimmerman is found not guilty that there will be rioting in the streets, very much like the Los Angeles Riots in 1992 (depicted in the picture to the left). And similar to those L.A. riots, racism is the cause of the anger and uproar. In 1992, four LAPD officers were acquitted of assault with a deadly weapon and excessive use of force after brutally beating an African American man, Rodney King–which was caught on videotape. This caused the African American community in Los Angeles to riot, from looting stores to committing arsons and assaults.
So, if Zimmerman is acquitted of his charges, will there be rioting? Will the African American community respond similarly to how they did back in 1992?
If the verdict is announced as not guilty, Florida Police have come out with a PSA urging the public to remain calm despite any feelings of injustice.
