ATLANTA (WAOK)-The state Department of Transportation says the Ga-400 tolls are scheduled to end November 21, 2013. But the actual removal of the toll plaza may take longer than expected.
The tolls have been in place on Ga. 400 since 1992. The booths are a more complex problem for the contractor, and cannot simply be taken down.
The booths have individual tunnels that allow the toll collector to enter and leave easily. The tunnels will have to be filled in and the roadway reinforced. The roads will be restriped to accommodate the three lanes for both northbound and southbound.
“That actual destruction of the toll plazas will probably not be completed until May of 2014,” says DOT’s Jill Goldberg.
