If you absolutely positively won’t drive a mini-van
Acura’s MDX is their top-of-the-line 7-passenger all-wheel-drive people-mover.
And Acura has done a pretty good job of engineering a vehicle that’ll still fit into your garage…and carry 7 passengers…and a fair amount of their stuff….in luxury.
All MDX’s come with all-wheel-drive and are powered by a 3.7 liter, 300 HP 6-cylinder routed thru a 6-speed automatic that’s rated at 16 city and 21 mpg hwy.
We got right at 20 in the typical Atlanta commute.
The MDX starts at $44,175 including destination fees, and includes driver recognition memory, 10-way heated power drivers’ seat, moonroof, power tailgate and heated power mirrors.
A tech package brings nav with voice recognition, surround-sound, real-time traffic and weather, hard-disc drive and more.
An “Advance” Package adds perforated, ventilated leather seating, blind-spot info, collision-mitigation braking, adaptive speed control, Xenon lights and 19” alloys.
Add the Entertainment Package and get motorized rear-seat DVDs and heated second-row seats.
Our test MDX had all of the above, and totaled $55,700.
The MDX has been on the market for a few years now, and Acura has obviously learned how to build ‘em. The MDX comes with high-rated 4 and 5 (top) star ratings for frontal crash, side impact and rollover. Impressive figures.
So if you just absolutely won’t be seen dead in a mini-van, Acura’s MDX will get you and up to six passengers and a bit of your stuff down the road rather safely…with 20 MPG….and a little bit of “swag”.
