BUFORD, Ga. (AP) — Authorities in Gwinnett County say a man has died after a confrontation with police.

Gwinnett County police Cpl. Jake Smith says authorities Monday afternoon were approaching 38-year-old Rodney Pike, of Buford, who was wanted in Forsyth County.

Smith says Pike ran from officers and police tried using a Taser on the man. Smith says it wasn’t effective and Pike got into a car and hit an officer. Smith says Pike then tried driving the car toward another officer when two officers fired at him.

Police were able to take control of the car and Pike was pronounced dead on the scene.

Smith says the officer who was hit by the car was not seriously injured and the shooting is under investigation.
