Atlanta (WAOK/WVEE)-Hundreds of fans and family members arrived at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church Thursday for the funeral of James Christopher Kelly popularly known as Chris ”Mac Daddy” Kelly of the group Kris Kross. Kelly died on May 1 after being found unresponsive in his home. He was 34. The exact cause of death has not been determined.
Members of the So So Def recording family were in attendance including producer Jermaine Dupri, Kris Kross partner Chris Smith, Da Brat, Tameka “Tiny” Harris (wife of T.I. “Tip” Harris), LaTocha and Tamika Scott members of the group Xscape and Chico DeBarge who performed at the service.
Jermaine Dupri first discovered Kelly and Smith at the age of 13 performing at Greenbriar Mall in 1991.
Their breakout hit “Jump” in 1992 made it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart where it stayed for eight weeks.
Kelly’s last public performance was at the So So Def 20th Anniversary Concert this past February.
