ATLANTA (AP/WAOK) – The Atlanta Police Department is preparing to welcome nearly two dozen new officers.
The 23 new officers are set to be celebrated at a graduation ceremony Tuesday at Atlanta City Hall.
The ceremony comes after 21 weeks of rigorous training at the Atlanta Police Academy and 12 weeks of field training with veteran officers. The training includes classroom sessions on constitutional law, department policy and procedure, hands-on defensive tactics, arrest techniques and daily physical fitness.
The Atlanta Police Department has more than 2,000 sworn officers, making it the biggest law enforcement agency in Georgia.
