Thomas Dimitroff…..you have up and done it! You have fed into the rumor at your pre-draft press conference that the Atlanta Falcons, the franchise in which you are General Manager, is possibly trying to move up in the upcoming draft on April 25th. Mr. Dimitroff, you have successfully messed up a perfectly good mock draft done by yours truly and now I am forced to wait patiently on your next move. I thought I had the perfect balance of continuity, need, and intrigue but NOOOOO….Thomas had to go and get the fan base all excited. But, it is no secret, during Mr. Dimitroff’s tenure the Atlanta Falcons have gone after the player or players they specifically target, regardless of what it costs. The 2013 NFL Draft will prove no different, but who will the Falcons jump up and go get? What player in this draft is your new “Julio”?

1. Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama-6’0, 202, 4.37-40 High profile corner with size, speed, and ball-hawking skills. Much needed in the Falcons secondary since the departure of Brent Grimes and Dunta Robinson. The only concern is will his shoulder impede his progress.

2. Dion Jordan, DE/OLB, Oregon-6’6, 248 pound speedster that would fit in the hybrid defensive scheme for Mike Nolan. Proven sack-master at Oregon when allowed, but would specialize in it on the next level.

3. Barkevious Mingo, DE/OLB, LSU-6’4, 241 pound flyer that can set the edge and is not afraid to tackle. Pure pass rusher and although production fell off later in career consider the fact that he played in the SEC. His skill set is comparable to Dallas Cowboys own DeMarcus Ware.

4. Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State-6’1, 210 pound corner with good speed, very physical, great in press coverage. He tends to become disinterested or gets lost in zone coverage but makes up for it with instincts.

5. Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia-6’2, 245 pound beast of a pass rusher was the “table-setter” for the UGA Defense. He can play inside or outside linebacker. Jones was the consensus #1 pass rusher and top-5 pick for most of the college post-season going into the draft, but after a subpar performance in his pro-day along with concerns of his long term health, he may have slipped some.

The Atlanta Falcons have 11 picks in this upcoming draft. The team considers themselves not too far away from getting to a SuperBowl. If the deal is right, Thomas Dimitroff has proven that he will go get that player if it is good business for the franchise. I look forward to draft night to find out which player they covet most and what will they be willing to do to get him.
