In a 54-46 vote, the Senate rejected the legislation to require background checks on gun sales at show and on the internet.  President Obama was visibly dismayed about the vote during his press conference where he was flanked by Newtown, CT parents and former Rep. Gabby Gifford.

Four Democrats voted against the bill because of increased pressure from the NRA and concern over their political futures.  Those Democrats included Sens. Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Max Baucus of Montana, and Mark Begich of Alaska and Sen. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota.

The conversation got very heated and some callers had crazy crazy comments!
