A group of bipartisan Senators have formally filed a immigration bill on the Senate floor early Wednesday, setting the stage for months of public debate over the bill. The bill would prevent undocumented immigrants from reaching legal status until the US government takes steps to keep unauthorized workers from getting jobs in the United States. The piece of the bill that is expected to draw the most controversy is the 13-year pathway to citizenship for immigrants who have been living here illegally.
