ATLANTA (AP/WAOK) – Police have arrested a man accused of fleeing the scene of a deadly hit and run crash in Marietta.

Marietta police say 25-year-old Joseph Gathambyri was struck by a vehicle shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday on South Marietta Parkway, near the Cobb Community Transit bus depot. Police spokesman Michael Gardner says he was hit from behind and the driver fled the scene.

Gardner says evidence from the scene and a tip led officials to arresting 27-year-old Damon Thomas Lautch on hit and run, DUI and vehicular homicide charges. Gardner says police tracked a black 1994 Toyota truck to a house in west Marietta. Gardner says Lautch is being held in the Cobb County jail. It is unclear if he has an attorney.

Marietta is about 15 miles northwest of Atlanta.
