Five Wrestlers Claim National Honors

At the NHSCA National meet in Virginia Beach, five Georgia wrestlers won national championships. The event was divided into class standing, as all seniors competed against each other, juniors had their own tournament, and the same was true for sophomores and freshmen. Chance McClure of Commerce won the junior tournament at 195 while Kenneth Brinson won the sophomore tournament at the same weight, Pope’s Brooks Climmons, an Air Force signee, won the 182-pound senior tournament, Sean Russell (113) and Ryan Millhof (120) both of Collins Hill, also won in the junior meet.
In baseball, No. 3 Marietta edged No. 8 McEachern to split the season series 1-1. The programs are now tied in the loss column with two defeats in a contentious Region 4-AAAAAA race. … Lassiter upset No. 2 Walton Friday 7-3, tossing a bit of drama into the Region 5-AAAAAA race. Walton was at the top, but now is in a logjam with multiple teams. The Trojans, meanwhile, breathed life into what has been a disappointing region season. … At the Perfect Game High School Showdown in Fort Myers, four Georgia teams took some lumps over the weekend. Parkview (No. 6 in AAAAAA) and Blessed Trinity (No. 1 in AAA) each went 2-2 against Florida teams while Cartersville (No. 5 in AAA) went 1-3 and Savannah Christian (unranked in A-Private) was winless.
