ATLANTA (WAOK) – Most U.S. restaurants are getting a failing grade when it comes to their menus for children. A new study by the Center for Science in the Public Interest says the bill of fare in most eateries is too high on calories, salt or fat and often doesn’t offer vegetables or fruit. Among nearly 35-hundred combinations surveyed, kids’ meals failed to meet federal nutritional standards 97-percent of the time. That’s a slight improvement over 2008 when such meals failed to meet standards 99-percent of the time.

Among the meals singled out was Applebees’ grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough bread, fries and two-percent chocolate milk. It tips the scales at more than 12-hundred calories, 62 grams of fat and more than 23-hundred milligrams of sodium.
