ATLANTA (AP/WAOK) – More than 30 organizations are expected to meet at the state Capitol to rally against childhood obesity.
Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning spokesman Reg Griffin says a coalition of organizations is set to convene Wednesday at the Capitol to demonstrate a joint commitment to fight childhood obesity in the state.
Griffin says 41 percent of the state’s children between 10 and 17 are overweight or obese, and the state ranks 49th nationally in terms of childhood obesity.
Organizers say lawmakers, business leaders and nonprofit groups will be on hand to share initiatives and ideas aimed at cutting the state’s childhood obesity rate.
The event, titled “Unite Against Childhood Obesity,” is scheduled to commense on the second floor of the Capitol.
