One robber is being praised for doing the right thing 30-years after his crime. Michigan’s WOOD TV reports that a person who says they stole 800-dollars from a store in Barry County, Michigan nearly 30 years ago has returned the money. The person first sent an anonymous letter to WOOD TV’s studio admitting to breaking into the Middle Mart near Middleville and stealing the money.
He claimed the robbery weighed heavy on his conscience and also asked the network to tell the owner that he was sorry for stealing from him. The writer went on to say that he had sent the money to the Barry County Sheriff’s Office along with an additional four-hundred dollars in interest. Undersheriff Bob Baker was in the office when the 12-hundred dollars arrived in an envelope labeled “confidential.”
Baker says he contacted the former owner, who confirmed that the store was broken into in the 1980s. Baker says the owner was “shocked” to get the money back.
