Today our special guest was Nicole English. She is part of an organization called “GirlTrek,” and they will be having a walking event in honor of Harriet Tubman. For those who don’t know, Harriet Tubman was a leading abolitionist who led hundreds of enslaved people to freedom along the route of the Underground Railroad. So in honor of her legacy, GirlTrek would like to encourage all to come to Piedmont Park and walk for 100 minutes. The even will take place on the anniversary of Harriet Tubman’s death, which is Sunday March 10, 2013. They are meeting at 4 P.M. near the visitor pavilion entrance near 14th street. The walk will begin at 4:15 P.M. All are encouraged to come, especially the women. Both young and old. If you are out of shape, that’s okay. GirlTrek believes in the motto, “no women left behind.” For more information, log on to their Facebook page – “Health Black Women and Girls.” You can also go to their website at www.GirlTrek.org.
