State lawmakers finalized a deal to correct an unintended consequence to leases that made leasing a vehicle in Georgia, not only unattractive, but downright unthinkable.

The original bill called for Georgians who leased vehicles after March 1, 2013, to be accessed a “double” tax. The bill called for a 6.5% title tax due at the purchase and a sales tax on the monthly payment. The amendment to the bill will leave the 6.5% title tax in place, but the monthly tax goes away.

On our show Saturday, March 2nd, State Senator Emanuel Jones assured our listener’s that the problem would be addressed this week and that the fix would be retroactive to March 1st. I spoke with Senator Jones this afternoon and he confirmed that bill has been sent to Gov. Deal and will be accepted and signed as written.
