ATLANTA (CBS Atlanta) — A teenager was shot 15 times after reportedly trying to leave a gang.

WAGA-TV reports the 19-year-old survived the Feb. 15 shooting after saying he wanted out of the Young Mob gang.

“Told the other members of the gang, ‘Hey, look I want to go straight, be law-abiding,’ and they weren’t happy with it,” U.S. Marshal Eric Heinz told WAGA.

The Daily News Journal identified the victim as Orentheal Childs.

The Journal reports that suspect Farrakmad Mohammed Price, 18, was arrested at a motel in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Price was previously wanted on aggravated assault and felony charges.

The people that helped Childs after he was shot are now in protective custody.

“Never since I’ve been in law enforcement have I seen someone shot 15 times and live,” Heinz told WAGA.

Officials say the Young Mob is a new gang in Atlanta that is an affiliate of the Goodfellas street gang.
