Breaking news out of Atlanta today as 10 police officers were arrested for corruption charges. They are being accused of taking money from street gangs in exchange for protection during drug deals and other illegal activities. They would take payoffs, some as low as $700, to protect cocaine deals taking place in crowded shopping centers and school parking lots. Officers who were arrested came from a wide rage of departments, such as Atlanta, Stone Mountain, Forest Park and the DeKalb County police and Sheriff’s Office. Officers from MARTA and the Federal Protective Service were also arrested. So far, no murders were reported under the authority of arrested police officers. As the investigation continues, an official from APD said that they will make sure that the officers that were involved will be brought to justice.
