WASHINGTON, D.C. (WAOK)- President Barack Obama will be inaugurated for his second term on Monday, January 21, 2013. There are not expected to be as many people in Washington, D.C. to witness the historic event as there were in 2009. An estimated 1.8 million people braved temperatures in the 20′s back then to make the inauguration of Obama the most attended event in Washington history.
Preparing to cover the inauguration and many of the events leading up to the swearing in takes planning, perseverance and a few energy drinks. There is lots of walking, talking and picture taking. The experience can be overwhelming. This is only Day One. Here is a photo synopsis of the first day in D.C. Saturday, January 19: The Day of Service. You will see pictures of various monuments, some of the band members from Georgia State University (the only Georgia college band invited to participate in the parade), the president’s viewing stand, the Martin Luther King Memorial and my credentials to cover the various events.
