Fulton County Elections Officials Subpoenaed

ATLANTA (AP/WAOK) – Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp says Fulton County elections officials have been subpoenaed to appear in a State Election Board meeting.

The meeting is set for Jan. 31 and elections officials have not provided state officials with documents outlining how the county handled last year’s presidential election. Kemp says the state wants to know how many people who used paper ballots had their votes counted or rejected, and whether the rejected voters were notified.

Officials say the county elections board mishandled absentee ballots in 2008, was fined $120,000 in 2009 for disposing of voter records and placed voters in incorrect House and Senate races during last year’s primary elections. Fulton County Registration and Elections Board Chairman Roderick Edmond announced his resignation last week.
