The GHSA football championships have been handed out and the 2012 season has come to a close. The champions sit atop the final polls for each classification, with ELCA and ECI sharing the Class A No. 1 ranking as each captured a Class A title. No. 1 Norcross beat out No. 2 Lovejoy for the Class AAAAAA title and ended up taking down six of the top 10 teams in the final poll to finish 15-0. In Class AAAAA, Gainesville finishes the 2012 season No. 1 and is a lock to start 2013 No. 1, assuming Deshaun Watson is back under center for the Red Elephants. No. 10 Kell will lose several talented defensive stars to UGA but will open next year in the 2013 Corky Kell Classic against Chattahoochee.

Sandy Creek claimed the AAAA title and the final No. 1 ranking, with Ridgeland, Marist, Monroe Area and Burke County rounding out the top five. South Effingham finishes the year at No. 10 after an impressive run in the playoffs.

For the first time all season, Calhoun is not No. 1 in Class AA after falling to champion Jefferson at the Dome Saturday. Calhoun finishes No. 2, ahead of No. 3 Lamar County, No. 4 GAC and No. 5 Early County. In Class A, Prince Avenue Christian’s impressive resume allowed the Wolverines to finish No. 3, ahead of Class A-Public finalist Dooly County.
