Funerals And Visitations Announced For Fallen Officers In Helicopter Crash

ATLANTA (WAOK)—Funerals and visitations for the two Atlanta police officers killed in a helicopter crash Saturday night will be held this week.

A police spokesman announced on Tuesday that Officer Richard J. Halford’s family will receive visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at JacksonMemorialBaptistChurch at 534 Fairburn Road N.W.

A police motorcade will leave Turner Field at 9:30 a.m. on Friday for Halford’s funeral, which will be held at Jackson Memorial at 11 a.m.

Officer Shawn A. Smiley’s family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home at 4347 Flat Shoals Parkway, Decatur, GA.

Smiley’s funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Atlanta at 4400 North Peachtree Road. A motorcade of officers will leave Turner Field at 9:30 a.m.

“We mourn these two brave men and offer our deepest condolences to their families and loved ones,” said Mayor Kasim Reed.

Since Monday, trust funds have been set up for the families of the two fallen officers. Police spokesman Carlos Campos said since Monday donations are being accepted at any Wells Fargo bank branch for the Richard Halford Memorial Fund and the Shawn Smiley Memorial Fund.
