ATLANTA (WAOK)-As the nation waited for former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney to officially concede the election to President Barack Obama on Tuesday night, questions began to mount. What was the holdup? How long would it take for Romney to make his concession speech? Was Romney challenging the results?
On the air in Atlanta, V-103 personality Ryan Cameron and WAOK/V-103 News Director Jean Ross stretched for time searching the internet to find out what was going on and talking to listeners about the results of the election. The two had already anchored a 6 hour wall to wall election result show with a panel of experts including former Atlanta Mayor William (Bill) Campbell; Attorney Janice Mathis, Vice President of Rainbow PUSH; Dr. William Boone, Political Science Professor at Clark Atlanta University; Attorney Rod Edmond, Chairman of the Fulton County Board of Elections and DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis.
Also joining the show during the evening Hall County Commissioner Ashley Bell the lone Republican who was checking in by phone several times during the evening from Romney Headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts.
As the minutes waned and questions of how long the night could go on went unanswered, Ryan suggested a call to Commissioner Bell once again to see if he could provide an update. Listen to the conversation that follows on the air. (This was the first notice that Romney was about to concede the election).
V-103 and WAOK were first in the country with the information everyone wanted to know. Fifteen minutes after the conversation with Commissioner Bell, the official notice of the concession speech was released to the media.
