ATLANTA (WAOK)—V103 and WAOK hit the polls around Atlanta to talk to voters on Election Day.
Both V103 and WAOK sent out their radio personalities to different poll locations talking to voters about their voting experience in 2012. Live reports from these locations were broadcast to the radio stations as early as 7:00 am as soon as the polls opened.
The majority of the visited locations consisted of churches, libraries, and schools in Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb and Gwinnett counties. Most locations visited during the day reported a steady stream of voters with no major problems reported, although by the end of the day several Fulton County locations had reported problems with faulty machines and inexperienced poll workers which lead to long lines and frustrated voters.
As the evening progressed and the polls closed, V-103 and WAOK switched to wall to wall coverage of election returns with Jean Ross and Ryan Cameron simulcasting on both stations from the V-103 studio with a panel of experts, Frank and Wanda from Frank Ski’s Restaurant and Lounge in Buckhead and Egypt Sherrod, Greg Street and Derrick Boazman from the Atlanta University Center where many students reported being first time voters.
“It was an amazing experience for me, because I know that my vote will make a difference,” a college student from Spelman University told V-103 midday personality Egypt. “As a college student, I know that Obama has the best plan for me when I graduate, especially with paying back my loans.”
