FAIRBURN, Ga. (AP) — School officials south of Atlanta told parents that one of their parent volunteers is on the Georgia sex offender list.
Bear Creek Middle School Principal Darron Franklin told parents the school system will immediately review the volunteer approval process to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
WSB-TV reports that band members at Creek Middle School and Creekside High School say they knew the volunteer as someone who handed out pizza at football games.
Fulton County sheriff’s officials tell The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the man went on several field trips and was around children multiple times.
The issue came to light after parent Bobby Wilcox looked at Georgia’s online sex offender registry and recognized the volunteer. Wilcox says he called the principal, and the district immediately banned the volunteer from school property.
